Canvas - Who should get started?

By now, you’ve probably heard the system behind Carmen will upgrade to a new learning management system called Canvas. If not, you can easily get caught up now.

You may have already noticed the Carmen landing page looks different. This is the place where you can find, enter and manage your courses. This is the first visual transition of the move to Canvas.

So, who should get started?

Canvas is ready to use now. All faculty and instructors should begin migrating their courses.

The Office of Distance Education and eLearning has a number of resources available to help make the process go smoothly.

To get started, there are a couple of places we encourage you to visit.

  1. Canvas Adoption (includes important need to know information for instructors, FAQs and timelines)
  2. Getting started with Canvas (the info here refers to Canvas in its pilot stage, but is still valuable to learn)
  3. How to adapt your D2L course to Canvas (a detailed guide to migrating your courses)
  4. Canvas trainings (Hands on training from ODEE to help you become familiar with Canvas)

The summer semester is one of the best times to start learning the ins and outs of Canvas and moving your courses. ODEE is scheduled to fully integrate Canvas into Carmen by January 2017 – the start of spring semester.

Canvas Adoption Timeline
Completion of the Canvas adoption is expected by January 2017 – about 6.5 months from now.
