Faculty Pay Changes

Thursday, August 06, 2020

This is a reminder from the university's Office of Academic Affairs of the upcoming changes in faculty appointment dates and provide clarification on how the pay impacts of these changes are being managed.

Though the Workday launch date has been extended to January 2021, some process changes will go into effect on the previously established timeline. Those changes include:

  • System hire/start dates for faculty will be August 15 to align with the academic year. This means faculty start dates in the HR system and the report-to-campus date will be in alignment, eliminating current inconsistencies. This change will go into effect August 2020.
  • Pay dates for 9/12 faculty (faculty working 9 months out of the year and paid over 12 months) will shift to align with dates worked. The first issued paycheck each academic year will align with the August 30 pay schedule. This will cause a temporary, but noticeable, difference in pay.
    • August 2020: Ongoing or continuing 9/12 faculty will receive a substantially larger payment than other months due to the two-week overlap with the end of the 2019-2020 academic year pay and beginning of the 2020-2021 academic year pay.
    • August 2021: Workday’s Academic Pay calculator will prorate/split the August 2021 check so the check will not be as large as August 2020, and would be a “normal” amount compared to the rest of the 2021 academic year.
    • The changes to August 2020 payments will be managed by Payroll Services.

Additional Changes to Note:

  • Note that this change only affects 9/12 faculty. Any faculty member in a Semester or 12/12 month appointment will continue to be paid the monthly rate in Job Data.
  • Faculty Professional Leaves both returning and beginning date will be August 15 for this fall.
  • Faculty promotional, teaching support program, counter offers, equity increases and faculty awards pay increases will be effective August 15.
