Newly reorganized Office of Academic Affairs

Friday, February 14, 2020

The student experience in the College of Education and Human Ecology is of paramount importance to us. As we enter a new year and a new season, punctuated by our first undergraduate commencement planned on April 30, we are excited to offer our students new possibilities and new opportunities.

After reviewing the structure of the Office of Undergraduate Student Services, now known as the Office of Academic Affairs, the college has re-organized this unit to better serve our students and our college.

Advising will now follow the student experience lifecycle, and several new positions in Advising, Recruitment and Scholarships and the Honors program will offer students even more targeted and robust support.

Student Services and Academic Advising will be divided into two units, with some advisors changing roles. For students studying in Human Sciences, Casey Henceroth will direct a team staffed by Melissa Solinger, Laurel Clarkson, Brandon Hines and Jim Lingo. Pete Rex, formerly the director of the ACES program, will be the lead advisor.

Teaching and Learning and Educational Studies students will be directed by a new hire who will begin in late March. The advising team will include Kim Tackett, Trisha Ritter and Shannon Romey. Heather Long will serve as lead advisor.

Service to students will not be interrupted. Those with already scheduled appointments will be seen as planned this term, but beginning today, any new appointments will be directed to the newly assigned advisors. Our advisors will be reaching out to our students with a more detailed message.

Our Office of Recruitment, directed by Kia McKinnie, has also seen some re-organization.  Now known as the Office of Student Recruitment, Engagement and Retention, this unit is joined by three veteran advisors with new roles, including Kim Bruening, who will now direct ACES and GO EHE, Pete Locascio and Leah Schuh.

One other relatively new office worth highlighting is our College Scholarships and Honors Program office. Managed by Ta-Tanisha Barrett, this office opened in September 2019 to direct students to scholarship opportunities within our college, and to offer programming to both scholarships and honors program students. Study breaks, mixers and other events are in the works this term.

Staffing remains the same in our Office of Career Development and External Relations, which is directed by Nancy Dugan, and our Office of Curriculum and Assessment managed by Danielle Brown.

With this re-organization, Ramsey Piazza has been appointed manager of Data Evaluation. He will respond to requests for data related to enrollment, advising and recruitment.

As with all new ventures, we will add more refinement in the coming weeks and months, but we believe this new infrastructure will provide a quality experience for our students and college
