Phish-Me Reporter Outlook add-on

Wednesday, July 03, 2019

On June 28, you received a message about a fake email coming from the dean.  Many of you also received a bogus email from a colleague whose account had been hacked. These things happen. It’s the nature of email combined with people who have nefarious intent to try and get money easily.

You can’t prevent all phishing email or spam from coming in. Some will always get through. What you can do is report these emails as you receive them to phish-report@osu.edu. Just forward the email to that address. You can also install an add-on created by the Office of the Chief Information Officer to Outlook called Phish-Me.  It does the same thing as forwarding your email to phish-report, but instead of opening the email and forwarding it, just highlight the email, click the Report-Phishing button and the add-on forwards the email for you and sends the original to your trash.

You can find the installation in EHE Apps for Windows or Self Service in Macs. Close Outlook first, run the installation and then open Outlook again, and you’ll have a new button with a fish on it. Next time you get a suspicious email, don’t open it, just highlight it and click the fish.

Contact the EHE service desk for assistance if you prefer.
