Security changes for Macbooks and iMacs

Friday, February 15, 2019

Several security changes for Macbooks and iMacs will be implemented starting the week of February 18 to align with Ohio State's security framework and standards.

Some of these changes will require a reboot.

You can run the installation called “Endpoint Protection and Endpoint Encryption” at any time through the Self Service application in your computer's applications. We encourage you to save your work and run the install as soon as it is convenient to avoid any interruption to your work.

On February 25, the installation will happen automatically if you have not performed the installation.

Here's what you can expect:

Endpoint Protection - New AntiVirus for MacOS

Symantec Endpoint Protection will be replacing System Center Endpoint Protection as the antivirus for MacOS devices. You will be prompted to restart your Macbook or iMac once the antivirus is installed.

Endpoint Encryption

Dell Endpoint Encryption provides encryption and Filevault key management for MacOS. You will be prompted to login with your Ohio State name.# credentials once Dell Endpoint protection is installed on your Macbook or iMac.

System Configuration

All Macbooks and iMacs will receive configuration items that set system behavior. Examples includes a welcome banner at login, screen lock, and other security settings. These are very similar to the standards already applied to Windows workstations.

Please note that iPads are not affected.

If any questions regarding the changes or experience any issues, please contact the Service Desk by phone at 614-247-8324 or email at servicedesk@ehe.osu.edu.
