Live Streaming

With an increase in live streaming needs, there are resources available for live streaming functionality for events through the university for a fee.

The Ohio State University provides several software platforms and professional services for live stream events.

🎥 Supported Software & Platforms

  • CarmenZoom: The primary university-supported web conferencing platform. Faculty and staff receive a pro account accommodating up to 300 participants. For large-scale events, you can request dedicated webinar spaces through the Teaching and Learning Resource Center.
  • Microsoft Teams: Included in the Microsoft 365 enterprise suite for all employees. Teams allows for standard video broadcasts as well as managed live events for collaborative presentations.
  • Mediasite: Primarily used for recording and streaming lectures. It can be operated via hardware recorders built directly into podiums in select classrooms or through a browser-based software from your personal computer.

🏢 Professional & Campus Services

  • Media & Public Relations Studio: University employees can access a professional multimedia room for live television interviews and livestreamed press conferences. Contacting the media and public relations team is required to coordinate scheduling.
  • WOSU Public Media: For high-end or highly complex external live streaming needs, departments can contract WOSU (fees apply).

⚠️ Crucial Compliance Reminder

  • Digital Accessibility: Under Ohio State's Minimum Digital Accessibility Standards, all university-affiliated online events must provide accurate live captioning. Automated captions via Zoom or Teams are generally permitted, but human captioning must be arranged if your event exceeds 200 participants, involves critical legal/medical information, or has participants who have specifically requested accommodations.
