Live Benefits Webinar to Assist with Open Enrollment
Open Enrollment for 2025 benefits will be available November 1-15, 2024. All elections made during Open Enrollment are effective January 1, 2025. If you need assistance with making your benefits elections for 2025, or need help navigating how to do so in Workday, there are pre-recorded presentations available, as well as a live benefits webinar via Zoom from 1-2pm on Friday, November 15. From there you can register for the webinar or click on the links to the prerecorded presentations.
Introducing Leader Onboarding
To help leaders navigate their role effectively and with certainty, Human Resources has designed new resources for onboarding leaders. If you are new to leading at Ohio State, taking on a new team or stepping into a leader role for the first time, access the Leader Onboarding Guide, which provides support and guidance in developing essential skills, specifically in your first 90 days. Additionally, if you are hiring a new leader externally or internally, or promoting from within, a Leader Onboarding Companion Guide is available to help you engage with and assist your new leader on their people leader journey. Nepotism Policy revision
The Nepotism Policy has been revised to further clarify that any employee cannot use their position to influence – either directly or indirectly – the hiring process for a family member. Examples of indirect influences are provided in the Ohio Ethics Law FAQ, which is included in the policy. Additionally, an updated form helps to guide employees on mitigating possible conflicts of interest.
Apply for Professional Development Funds
The Staff and Manager Professional Development Funs Program Offered by The Office of Human Resources and University Staff Advisory Committee, Supports Staff pursuing professional and career development. Applications for the funds will be accepted until May 31st, 2024. Funding recipients can receive can cover professional development activities occurring between July 2024 – June 2025; up to $1,000 for individuals and $2,250 for groups of two or more.

Process Improvements, Financial Review Coming to Workday Job Postings
The campus job posting process will be updated in mid-April to remove duplications, increase transparency and shorten the time for posting positions. A new Campus Position Hiring Request Form will be attached in Workday, and financial review will be integrated into the Workday process. The existing DocuSign Hiring Exception form will be eliminated. Find additional support resources on the HR website. For positions posted in April, carefully review these resources for any potential impacts.
Campus Security Authority (CSA)
notifications will be going out on or around April 12 from the Office of University Compliance and Integrity to all faculty and staff who are CSAs. It will include reporting responsibilities and a BuckeyeLearn video. If you receive the CSA notification for your role, please view the training in BuckeyeLearn and submit reports as directed.
Tuition Assistance Enrollment
Applications for tuition assistance benefits must be submitted each term, and enrollment deadline for summer semester 2024 is May 10, 2024.
New Benefits and Pay Dashboard in Workday
A new benefits and pay dashboard in Workday now makes it easier to access your most important benefits and pay information in one place. The new dashboard, called the Benefits and Pay Hub, combines previous Workday apps with more comprehensive details about your compensation history, recent paychecks health benefits, and more. A “Suggested Links” list includes frequently used tools and resources.
New resources for people leaders
Whether you’re new to leading people or have years of experience, you have access to resources that help you to continuously grow as a leader. A new online series for leaders about essential conversations overviews six foundational conversations to have with team members and the Manager Foundations: Getting Started with Technology training gives a better understanding of Ohio State’s technology platforms, tools and resources.

Weather-Related Resources and Closing Reminders
It is important to be aware of the university’s weather-related resources and policy, know your disaster designation and learn how to check the university’s status. Although Ohio State strives to remain open, extreme conditions during the winter can warrant the usage of the university’s Weather or Other Short-Term Closing Policy. Faculty and staff can be prepared by reviewing this policy and taking note of the resources to check the university’s status. You can also view your disaster designation in your Workday profile. The Weather or Short-Term Closing Policy does not apply to Ohio State Wexner Medical Center employees.

Improved Process for Staff and Manager Career Development Grants
In partnership with the Office of Human Resources, we recently reviewed the process for awarding staff and manager career development grants. As a result, several updates have been made to the process for the 2024 fiscal year. The grant application, award requirements, and steps to access funds have now been simplified and have a more clearly defined award period.
Grant funding up to $1,500 for individuals and up to $2,250 for groups of two or more is available for staff with at least a 0.75 FTE status who have been employed for at least one year. Only an interest in professional development is needed to apply; a specific course, program, or use for the funds is not required prior to applying or receiving a grant. Grant recipients can cover activities occurring between October 2023 - June 2024.
