Reminders and Staying Up to Date

Workplace Violence Awareness and Resources

We all play a part in keeping the Ohio State Community safe. It’s important to be prepared, should a violent situation arise, by taking time to review the Workplace Violence Policy and frequently asked questions

Lifestyle Spending Account

To support health and well-being, Ohio State offers eligible employees the option of using a Lifestyle Spending Account (LSA) to reimburse personal expenses related to health, fitness, family, emotional and social wellness. This benefit reimburses you up to $125 quarterly (a total of $500 per year) for eligible well-being purchases. Learn more about LSA

Retiree Group Term Life Insurance Payment Options

Retiree Group Term Life Insurance coverage has a new billing process for the first billing quarter of 2024. The new process started Friday, Dec. 1, and provides a more streamlined process with additional payment options. As a reminder, retirees elect coverage in Workday following a September implementation.

Ohio State’s Accounts Receivable now sends invoices and collects payments instead of Human Resources. Online payment is available at go.osu.edu/paymybill using an eCheck or credit/debit card, and mailing a check or money order to Accounts Receivable continues as a payment option. Retiree GTLI coverage and premium amounts will not be impacted. More information is available on the HR Life Insurance page.

Manager Foundations Training

A new training on Ohio State’s technology platforms, tools and resources is available for managers, manager liaisons, and administrative professionals. Build your foundation and confidence in using administrative technology that assists you in performing your work and managing employees. Human Resources team members will cover topics such as HR Connection, Workday, Microsoft 365, BuckeyeLearn and others, and guide you in finding and using tools that support your work. The Zoom training is offered the third Thursday of each month starting Sept. 21, at 10 a.m. Register for any session. This post is also available via NewsLink online.

Document Flexible Work Arrangement

Faculty, staff and student employees must document their location for tax reporting purposes by completing a Flexible Work and Remote Tax Form. Anyone working remotely for more than one day a week and longer than one month must complete the online form. When arrangements or locations change, a new form should be submitted. Staff should also complete the form for any flexible work agreement, including a compressed work week or time flexibility. For more information and FAQ please visit the HRconnection Knowledge Article.

Language Accommodation

Each unit is responsible for arranging appropriate employee accommodations, including language, when requested. The Office of Institutional Equity website has a non-exhaustive list of vendors that provide language accommodations. When a language accommodation is requested, the unit must contact the vendor directly to coordinate services and arrange payment. Contact your unit’s fiscal officer for questions about budgeting or cost. For general questions about language accommodations, please contact equity@osu.edu.

Safety App

Ohio State’s Department of Public Safety offers a free safety app for students, faculty and staff. Rave Guardian offers many benefits including faster delivery of Buckeye Alerts and Public Safety Notices via push-notifications. The app also allows users to select friends or family to follow them via GPS tracking as they travel on and around campus. If interested, the app is available to download

Add The Non-emergency OSU Police Number to Your Phone

Your safety is our number one priority. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to add the non-emergency OSU Police number to your phone as a contact and to follow us on Twitter @OSUPolice and @OSU_EMFP. Always report suspicious behavior on campus to University Police at 614-292-2121 or off-campus to Columbus Police at 614-645-4545. Dial 9-1-1 in an emergency.

Active Aggressor Video

It’s scary to think about, but an active aggressor could strike any place, at any time. That’s why Ohio State’s Department of Public Safety has a “Surviving an Active Aggressor” video to educate the campus community. The safety of our students, faculty and staff is our top priority and we encourage all Buckeyes to watch the video.

Policy Reminder: Nepotism

The Nepotism Policy 1.25 emphasizes that selection of personnel be based on job-related qualifications and performance. Relationship by family, marriage or domestic partnership does not preclude hiring or promotion/transfer, as long as the individual meets and fulfills the appropriate appointment standards. Individuals must notify their supervisor if any family member applies for a position for which they will be responsible or may influence the employment actions referred to in this policy. In such instances, the individual has a duty to cooperate in making alternative arrangements. The nepotism policy outlines the procedures individuals should take if they encounter this situation.

Policy Reminder: Self-Disclosure of Criminal Convictions

The Self-Disclosure of Criminal Convictions policy 4.17, applies to all current faculty, staff, graduate associates and student employees, appointees, volunteers, third party staffing vendors and individuals interacting with minors. To promote a safe and secure environment for the Ohio State community, disclosing all criminal convictions is required and any new convictions must be reported within three business days of the conviction.
